Listed below are descriptions of the various roles undertaken by staff at Ford Timbers. New roles become available on a regular basis.

Sawmilling / Processing Plants

Bench saw operator
Operates smaller recovery saw bench, recovers timber down to final sizing. Timber grading skills necessary.

Chainsaw operator
Cross-cuts logs to set lengths with a chainsaw before they are processed into sawn timber. Chainsaw training/accreditation required. This position is often combined with that of the log loader operator, therefore a front end loader certificate would be an advantage.

Clerical Staff
Perform administration tasks for the production plants.

Docking saw operator
Docks out defects from sawn timber and docks timber to length. Timber grading skills advantageous.

Fork lift operator
Loads / unloads sawn timber onto / from trucks, and moves finished packs of sawn timber around timber yard. Requires fork lift and/or front end loader certificate.

Log loader operator
Unloads log trucks, supplies sawmill work stations with logs for sawing. Requires front end loader certificate.

Machinist
Sets up and operates planing machines. Machinist qualifications not necessary but a definite advantage.

Millwright
Maintenance staff for the sawmills and processing plant, performing a wide variety of maintenance tasks. Qualifications are necessary (eg., fitter and turner, boilermaker etc.). Experience in a wide variety of maintenance duties would be a distinct advantage.

Orderperson
Assembles timber orders when the finished product leaves the plant, combined with the duties of a stacker. Timber grading and manual handling skills necessary.

Saw sharpener
Sets up and operates automatic saw sharpening machine.

Sawing station operators (Canadian break-down saw, twin edger saw, larger saw benches, frame saw, multi saw)
Break down logs to smaller sizes and to finished sizes. Grading skills necessary.

Stacker
Tallies the finished product and stacks it into packs as it leaves the mill or processing plant. Needs to understand sizes, grading requirements and manual handling techniques.

Timber sorter
Sorts timber coming from sawing stations, ie., decides which timber is up to grade, which needs to be resawn, etc. Timber grading and manual handling skills necessary.

Brisbane Sales / Administration

Administration staff
Administration tasks - accounts, payroll, invoicing etc.

Sales staff
Timber sales - wholesale.

Yard staff
Process orders
